At UAB, the Master of Science in Health Physics Program is in a unique position to train a new generation of health physicists that play a critical role in ensuring safety emphasizing medical aspects of the field.
Our curriculum includes medical radiation physics and physics of diagnostic imaging courses and our students have access to the UAB Advanced Imaging Center medical cyclotron, which is one of the most powerful cyclotrons in an academic medical center in the United States. This profession requires cross-disciplinary critical thinking and is in high demand both in the United States and globally.
Our supervised practicums provide students opportunities for gaining applied real-world work experience and networking connections with professionals in the field. In addition, our professional development courses offer a unique opportunity for students to become well-rounded professionals.

Health Physics is the profession dedicated to the protection of humans and their environment from the harmful effects of both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation while providing for its beneficial uses. Health Physics is an interdisciplinary science that combines the elements of physics, biology, chemistry, Engineering and statistics, in the evaluation and improvement of practices involving radiation producing machines and radioactive materials with the goal of optimizing system performance with respect to human health and safety, economy and stewardship of the environment.
