In reply to bmancl's post on August 11, The device manager settings, devices, all the way at the bottom may have a couple of settings you need to check on the keyboard Power Management tab. One is "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and "Allow this device to wake the computer.
Since I use the keyboard to wake, the second is checked. Also, some motherboards have a jumper to allow power to various USB inputs in sleep mode. This would not be a problem in an off the shelf computer, more like a custom build.
I had initially done this for all the USB connections under the Universal Serial Bus controllers option but that did not work. So I clicked around and figured out that the mouse and keyboard both have two property fields under computer management the hardware and its USB connection.
